Origin & Diversity
Our vineyards are more than just rows of vines - they are habitats. Herbs, grasses, flowers, insects and birds form a living ecosystem. This diversity is no coincidence, but our conscious goal. Because only in balance can healthy vines grow - and wines with character.
We don't work against nature, but with it. Mindfully, sustainably, trusting that the soil provides everything the vine needs. For us, nature is the partner and source of every wine.
Soil & Climate
The soil and climate form the foundation of our work. In southern Burgenland, iron-rich brown earth, slate and loam come together – a combination that is unique in this form. This mineral diversity gives our wines depth, spice and an unmistakable earthiness – a signature that can only be found here.
Added to this is the Pannonian-Illyrian climate: characterized by warm, sunny days and cool nights, it ensures that the grapes ripen slowly and evenly. This interplay of soil and climatic conditions creates a unique terroir that is reflected vividly and precisely in every sip. In this way, nature and location merge to form a harmonious basis on which our wines develop their unmistakable personality.
Iron
Iron is more than just a trace element - it is the invisible force in our soils that guides the growth of the vines and shapes the characteristics of the grapes. In Deutsch Schützen and on the Eisenberg, iron is mainly found in the form of iron oxides, which give the soil its special structure and vitality.
This mineral strengthens the vines, supports the absorption of important nutrients and influences the development of phenols – the building blocks that determine the colour, tannin and ageing potential of wines. This results in wines with a noticeable minerality, accompanied by a fine spiciness and a firm, clear structure.
The iron in the soil not only gives our wines a velvety texture, but also a complex bouquet of herbs, spices and earthy notes. It gives them depth, resilience and a natural longevity - a vivid expression of the terroir that we tell with every bottle.
Region
Southern Burgenland is small, unspoilt and authentic. Among rolling hills, forests and quiet paths, wines with character thrive. Far away from the major wine centres, authentic wines are produced here, shaped by the soil, climate and people who remain true to their origins. Every sip tells the story of a region that is as gentle as it is powerful.
villages
Our homeland lives from the tension between two places that are close to each other and yet both have their own character.
Deutsch Schützen – Round, profound wines, gentle slopes characterized by iron-rich brown earth and loam. This is where richness, structure, and ripe, lively fruit are created. History breathes here; winegrowing has been practiced here for centuries—down-to-earth, authentic, with heart and hand.
Eisenberg - sparser, wilder, more direct, criss-crossed by slate. The sites here are rougher, the soil stonier, the climate often cooler. The wines are tighter, more delicate, with salty minerality and an almost dancing precision. A landscape that whispers more than it shouts - and reveals depth precisely because of this.
Our origins unfold between these two villages: two personalities that complement and contradict each other, yet find a common language in wine – unmistakably South Burgenland.
Vinyards
Beneath our feet lies the soul of wine – layer upon layer of a mosaic of iron-rich brown earth, slate and fine loam. Each of our vineyards bears its own signature, shaped over thousands of years, influenced by climate and time.
Ratschen, Fasching, Reihburg, Saybritz, Szapary and Weinberg – six vineyards, each with its own texture, depth and history. Their soils contain the mineral forces that make our wines precise, complex and distinctive. We see them not only as a foundation – they are part of our identity. Wines that reflect the uniqueness of their place of origin.
